What happens to animals at the zoo when it is too cold?

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (CMZoo) said recent freezing temperatures did not create any issues for them or the animals “Being a mountain zoo we are always prepared for winter weather.”

CMZOO said when it is too cold for certain animals, they stay indoors with enriching activities to keep them active and engaged. Animals native to warmer climates have temperature guidelines for their safety. The CMZoo team practices winter weather preparedness regularly.

Animals native to cooler climates enjoy the option to be indoors or outdoors, and some animals might become more active during the colder weather according to CMZoo.

CMZoo said there are warm buildings, food, and drinks for visitors who also need a break from the cold temperatures while visiting the zoo.
