(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The City of Colorado Springs said an improvement project is underway at the section 16 Trailhead at Red Rock Canyon Open Space.
The City said the improvements are designed to enhance pedestrian and visitor safety, improve the visitor experience, and promote connectivity in and around the trailhead.
Beginning the week of Monday, Jan. 29 park staff will conduct minor work in and around the parking lot, followed by improvements to the Stephanie’s Trail at Gold Camp Road which will connect to the upcoming trail enhancements in Bear Creek Cañon Park. There will also be a new pedestrian crosswalk with added signage will be installed on Gold Camp Road to improve safety.

“We are excited to begin this small but important improvement project at the Section 16 Trailhead,” said David Deitemeyer, sr. landscape architect for Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services. “This work aims to enhance the trail experience and contributes to the overall vision of creating a more sustainable and enjoyable outdoor space for the community. These improvements will have a positive impact on Red Rock Canyon Open Space, Bear Creek Cañon Park, and their visitors for years to come.”
The City said the project is expected to last the next six to eight weeks with limited access to the parking lot, there may also be closures of some parking spots during the improvement project.
