(COLORADO) — The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) said citations for speeding in a school or construction zone increased in 2023 by 12% over 2022, with El Paso County having the most citations given.
According to CSP, in 2023 troopers cited 1,237 people for speeding in low-speed zones and El Paso County was number one with 222 citations. CSP said speeding is a common form of aggressive driving and it can happen on neighborhood streets.
“Kids, neighbors, and road workers are counting on you, Colorado! Currently, motorists are failing these vulnerable populations,” stated Col. Matthew C. Packard, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol. “Motorists should never assume people will not be present in these low-speed zones and follow the law because people’s lives depend on you.”
CSP is asking the public to put away distractions and look for the mobile and permanent signs that prompt you to slow down or follow shifting lane patterns.
