CSPD: Man caught by K-9 at east side Walmart

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A man was taken into custody with the help of a Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) K-9 in the parking lot of an east side Walmart on Tuesday, April 9, according to police.

Just after 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, CSPD said the Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force (VOFTF) located a car belonging to a wanted suspect in the parking lot of the Walmart on Space Center Drive, near Palmer Park Boulevard and North Powers Boulevard.

CSPD said 45-year-old Eric Dixon had an active warrant for Domestic Violence and Felony Menacing, and was reportedly armed with a handgun. Detectives spotted Dixon shopping inside the Walmart with the victim involved in the warrant case.

CSPD said a plan was formulated to contact Dixon as he left the Walmart, and additional resources were called, including CSPD K-9 Milo. When Dixon exited the store, law enforcement moved in, and Dixon tried to run away. K-9 Milo was deployed, and Dixon was ultimately captured and placed in handcuffs.

Once handcuffed, CSPD said detectives found a handgun and an extra magazine in a holster on Dixon’s waist.

After being medically cleared at a hospital, Dixon was booked into the El Paso County Jail.
