Stolen car driven with headlights off in Pueblo leads to fatal crash

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — A stolen sedan that was speeding through Pueblo with its headlights off overnight crashed head-on into another driver, leaving two people dead and two with life-threatening injuries.

According to the Pueblo Police Department (PPD), officers first spotted a white sedan speeding westbound around midnight on Friday, April 12 on West Northern Avenue, near Bessemer Park. The car was again spotted speeding a short time later by detectives near the Colorado State Fairgrounds.

PPD said the sedan collided head-on with a truck turning north onto Beulah Avenue from eastbound Northern Avenue. The investigation revealed that the sedan had not only been speeding, but it was also an unreported stolen car being driven without headlights.

There were three people in the sedan at the time of the crash, and when emergency crews arrived on scene, two of them were declared dead. The third person from the sedan, as well as the driver of the truck, were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The crash is actively being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Unit, and Crime Scene Investigation Detectives responded to process the crash scene. The names of those killed in the crash will be released by the Pueblo County Coroner. This is the seventh fatal crash in Pueblo of 2024.
