Buddy: From homeless pooch to Chief Happiness Officer

(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Buddy the dog was left at the shelter twice, but when he finally found his forever home, he inherited a large family and an important job bringing joy to people who need it.

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) told Buddy’s story on their Facebook page on Monday, May 6, and explained that both times Buddy was brought to the shelter, it was because he wasn’t getting along with the children in the homes. Buddy didn’t appreciate anyone touching his things, and the children didn’t understand how to respect his boundaries.

So when Buddy was brought back to the shelter the second time, HSPPR decided he may have better luck at a rescue. HSPPR worked with a local dog rescue, which found a home that welcomed Buddy and all of his quirks.

What was supposed to be a temporary foster home became his forever home, when his foster mom fell in love with him. She worked on his resource-guarding issues and eventually helped him overcome his tendencies to protect his things.

Once Buddy was officially adopted, she started to bring him to her workplace at a senior living home. And where Buddy had struggled to live with children, he thrived when he was with seniors.

Buddy was a great emotional support for the residents who loved to hold him, especially when they were feeling anxious. He would give them a reason to smile, even on a hard day.

The staff dubbed him “Chief Happiness Officer” for the joy he brought to his newly expanded family.
