Mining Exchange: A glamorous addition to downtown Springs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — In 1902, the Mining Exchange was established in downtown Colorado Springs as a stock exchange for precious metals and was a meeting place for businessmen, investors, and mining magnates. Today, the historic building has been revived as a glamorous hotel.

The aesthetic that greets you in the lobby of the Mining Exchange, and throughout the hotel, is a perfect expression of Colorado’s past—both gilded and rugged. High ceilings, exposed brick, and art inspired by local natural elements capture the area’s unique beauty.

Kemmons Wilson Hospitality Partners, a subsidiary of Kemmons Wilson Companies, purchased the property in 2022, and Practice Hospitality now manages the hotel.

“The Mining Exchange Hotel is a symbol of Colorado Springs’ prosperous past and remains the heartbeat of the community,” said McLean Wilson, principal of Kemmons Wilson Hospitality Partners. “We are proud to be the stewards of this historic building. We brought together an incredible team of passionate experts committed to creating a hotel that will last another 120 years and be the city’s modern-day exchange for ideas, commerce, and connection.”

In addition to a variety of guest rooms and suites, the hotel features a high-craft coffee bar called BLK MGK that brews locally roasted beans from Hold Fast Coffee Co. and offers a menu of traditional favorites, plus some unexpected offerings.

The hotel also has a spot for cocktails—the indoor/outdoor bar and courtyard, Golden Hour. It serves high-craft cocktails, spirits, wine, local beer, and artisanal bites in a plush, relaxing setting. Golden Hour is planning a collaboration with Dizzy Charlie’s to provide live jazz on Thursdays.

“It has been a truly enriching experience to immerse ourselves in everything Colorado Springs offers and to collaborate with such exceptional partners,” said Bashar Wali, Founder & CEO of Practice Hospitality. “We are thrilled to bring the storied past and stunning design of the hotel alive and look forward to welcoming guests to the Pikes Peak region to enjoy the renewed charm of the Mining Exchange.”
