Air Quality Advisory in Teller County due to smoke

(TELLER COUNTY, Colo.) — Teller County Public Health and Environment (TCPHE) has issued an Air Quality Advisory due to smoke from a wildfire in Lake County and a controlled burn west of Monument.

The Teller County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) posted about the health advisory and said the smoke advisory was not because of any active wildfires in Teller County, but the combination of smoke from the Interlaken Fire that sparked Tuesday, June 11 near Twin Lakes and the prescribed burn taking place on U.S. Forest Service land west of Monument.

Smoke will be visible again today from prescribed burn

TCPHE recommends staying indoors if smoke becomes too thick in your neighborhood. This is especially important for those with respiratory illnesses, the elderly, young children, or those who are pregnant.

TCSO said one way to tell that the smoke levels have become unhealthy is if visibility is below five miles. If smoke is permeating indoors and making you ill, you should consider relocating temporarily.
