(PUEBLO/CUSTER COUNTIES, Colo.) — The Oak Ridge Fire team released an update on the status of the fire on Friday, June 28 at around 8 a.m.
According to fire crews, the Oak Ridge Fire increased by 63 acres on Thursday, June 27, and increased slightly to 1,109 acres overnight. The fire’s spread on Thursday was mostly in the west-southwest direction and remains three miles northwest of Beulah and is still at 0% containment.
Fire crews expect moderate smoke in the Beulah area on Friday, which will clear out briefly in the morning and then increase through the afternoon into the evening. There is a chance of possible showers and thunderstorms in the area which could cause erratic and gusty winds that can send smoke in any direction. Fire crews expect Cañon City, Pueblo, and Colorado City to have good air quality but a possible light haze in the afternoon.
The public can sign up to get emergency alerts through the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office or the Custer County Information Page to get information during an emergency.
Fire crews have increased to 445 total personnel. “The terrain is incredibly steep, rocky, and dangerous along the western side so indirect line and contingency planning to balance the risk of firefighter safety and suppression efforts has been a priority,” according to the Friday morning update.
