(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) is giving shelters from the north a lending paw by taking in pet evacuees as the wildfires continue.
Due to the fires in northern Colorado, many shelters in the northern part of the state are experiencing an influx of animals. Their kennels are filling up with evacuees, and to continue to help pets and families during this time, the shelters are relying on transfers.
On Friday, Aug. 2, HSPPR received transfers from two shelters, including six dogs, 13 cats, and four turkeys. They will all be available at the shelter, ready for a second chance at a home. HSPPR said all animals were in the shelters before the fires and are not owned by any individuals.
“Our community is incredibly supportive,” said HSPPR in a Facebook post. “We know we can always rely on you to be a hero and advocate for shelter pets. With that being said, we can only say YES to help when we have the kennel space to do so.”
Anyone looking for a new buddy can check out the hundreds of animals currently in the care of HSPPR. Those who’d like to help but are not ready to adopt can check out fostering a pet.
