Get free back-to-school supplies at neighborhood gathering

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Saturday, Aug. 10, Aedyn’s Backpack Club will host a Back to School Bash and Drive as part of the Colorado Springs 1,000 Gatherings initiative.

The event will be held in the parking lot at 3958 North Academy Boulevard near Austin Bluffs Parkway from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Entry is free for all ages and free backpacks and school supplies will be available on a first-come first-serve basis.

The event will also have entertainment such as bounce houses, face painting, a car show, and winners of Battle of Bands performing. There will also be interactive activities and games that educate about bullying and coping mechanisms.

The event is part of the 1,000 Neighborhood Gatherings initiative started by Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade. The purpose of the gatherings is to promote mental health by encouraging neighbors to connect with one another to address social isolation and loneliness.
