(PUEBLO, Colo.) — A 19-year-old man has been identified as the person found dead in a Pueblo home after barricading himself and firing shots at responding police officers on Tuesday, July 30.
According to the Pueblo County Coroner, 19-year-old James Jaramillo was found dead in a home in the 2100 block of South Drive, on Pueblo’s north side, following a barricaded suspect situation.
Officers with the Pueblo Police Department (PPD) originally responded to reports of a man armed with what appeared to be an AR-15-style rifle who was firing shots near the intersection of Aztec Drive and Valley Drive. Once officers arrived on the scene, the suspect was seen going into the home on South Drive, and when officers tried to make contact, the suspect fired shots at officers. At least one officer returned fire.
After numerous failed attempts to try and communicate with Jaramillo or get him to come out, SWAT Team members entered the home and found Jaramillo dead. No one else was inside the home at the time of the incident, and there were no injuries to officers or bystanders.
The Pueblo County Coroner released Jaramillo’s identity on Aug. 7.
The 10th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team, led by the Colorado Bureau of Investigations, is handling the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
