Cheyenne Mountain students to take part in evac exercise

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — More than 300 students in Cheyenne Mountain School District 12 (CMSD12) will take part in an emergency exercise alongside emergency preparedness officials and first responders.

The exercise will be held at the Broadmoor World Arena on Friday, Sept. 13. The Pikes Peak Regional Office of Emergency Management (PPROEM), Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD), and Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) will all be in attendance to conduct the exercise.

“We are committed to the safety and well-being of our students and staff,” said Dr. David Peak, CMSD12 Superintendent. “Exercises where we can work closely with our community partners are the best way to ensure all members of our school community are prepared when real emergencies happen.”

In addition to the over 300 students participating in the event, approximately 50 staff members will take part as well. The exercise will consist of a large-scale evacuation and reunification, and CMSD12 said it would also collaborate with neighboring Colorado Springs School District 11 and Harrison School District 2 for transportation assistance as well as The Broadmoor World Arena.
