Chestnut St. shooting: man found dead in car identified

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) released the identification of a man who was found inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound on Monday, Aug. 26.

At approximately 11:45 a.m. on Monday, officers responded to a crash in the 4200 block of Chestnut Street, near Garden of the Gods Road and I-25. When they arrived, officers discovered a single car crashed and an adult man dead of an apparent gunshot wound.

On Tuesday, Aug. 27, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy and identified the man as 24-year-old Vidal Vigil. The Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, though the case is currently being investigated as a homicide.


CSPD looking for silver sedan in Chestnut St. shooting

On Aug. 26, CSPD identified a silver four-door sedan of an older make and model as a possible vehicle of interest. CSPD said they do not believe the shooting was a random act and there is no known threat to the public.

This case remains under investigation, and CSPD continues to develop suspect information.
