(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Tuesday, Sept. 10, students from Colorado Springs School District 11 took part in a symposium with a focus on sustainability in our community.
The student-focused Green Summit brings together students, teachers, and community leaders to address environmental challenges and explore green solutions.
“They get to learn all about how their energy is produced, where their water comes from, and the best ways they can, best actions they can take as students for a cleaner, greener future,” said Birgit Landin, Community Education Specialist with Colorado Springs Utilities.
The summit encourages students to take more active roles in their community to help shape a sustainable future, and to do so, they provide a platform for these young leaders to collaborate with experts and local organizations.
“If I could learn something, probably on just like, what I can do, on my part, to make the earth better, like just as a whole and a community. And like what our school can do to focus on making our school better,” said Lucy Berumen, a high school student attending the event.
The event included workshops led by leaders from Colorado Springs Utilities, the Fountain Creek Watershed District, Drive Clean Colorado, USAFA/STEM Outreach/Legacy, UCCS, and Colorado College, among others.
