Senator Hickenlooper visits Pueblo nonprofit

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — On Tuesday, Oct. 15, Senator John Hickenlooper visited Servicios de La Raza, a nonprofit dedicated to closing healthcare gaps for the Latino community in Pueblo County.

Servicios de La Raza provides a full spectrum of care including; post-incarceration and behavioral health services, a food pantry, housing, workforce development, and victim services programming.

Sen. Hickenlooper helped secure $2 million in federal aid to support the newly opened site.

“Money is always important to nonprofits; as you know, nonprofits tend to operate on shoestring budgets,” said Dr. Velia Rincon, Director of Public Services at Servicios de La Raza. “So when it is directly given to us, it means that a lot more dollars go into the programs and a lot more dollars go into the nonprofits that are serving clients directly.”

Sen. Hickenlooper also held a town hall following the tour at Servicios de La Raza to hear directly from Coloradans about issues and discuss updates from Washington.
