Southern Colorado’s very own ‘Ghostbusters’

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — As the sun sets and the streets come alive with the glow of jack-o’-lanterns, Halloween is upon us, and with it comes a sense of wonder and unpredictability.

If there is something strange in your neighborhood, “who you gonna call?” Well, if you live in the Pikes Peak region, try Ken Vizzini. Often seen cruising around town in his modified Ecto-1, Vizzini is fully equipped for ghostbusting adventures.

“Whether it’s real or not, we are going to believe you,” Vizzini said.

As the mastermind behind Pikes Peak Ghostbusters, Vizzini spreads excitement throughout the area, celebrating the joy of ghostbusting at schools, libraries, parades, and charity events.

“It gives me a purpose and it also takes my eyes off of my problems and lets me just forget them,” Vizzini explained. “Their smiles, their reaction never gets old.”

Vizzini has been transforming his Ghostbuster vehicle for several years, inspired by a creative spark back in 2017. He transformed his ordinary 2005 Toyota Tacoma into a tribute to the legendary Ecto-1 and of course, every Ghostbuster needs a sidekick.

“There’s so much to enjoy about being a part of this,” said Dorian Marricle, Pikes Peak Ghostbuster. “Like Ken, I am also a huge creative type. I love building stuff, I’ve always been into that. Creating props and costumes has always been up my alley.”

Armed with proton packs, they’re not just embracing the spirit of the season, they’re also bringing smiles to faces young and old. This Halloween you can find the Pikes Peak Ghostbusters at trunk-or-treat events across Southern Colorado, as long as they don’t get a call.

Using their ghost traps, they’ve captured several monsters including the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Slimer.

As trick-or-treaters of all ages gather around the truck, these Ghostbusters said the community’s reaction fuels their passion.

“Being a real-life Ghostbuster is a dream come true,” Marricle said. “I’ve met so many amazing people and done so many crazy things I never thought I would have ever done.”

The Pikes Peak Ghostbusters can be seen cruising around Southern Colorado all year long. To find out where they will be next, follow them on Facebook at Pikes Peak Ghostbusters.
