Boom hits power pole, causes power outage for almost 4,000

(COLORADO SPRINGS)— According to Springs Utilities outage map, power has been restored to part of the city, and the power outage is now reduced to 1,722 customers affected.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) reported that an elevated boom hit a power pole around 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3. According to Colorado Springs Utilities (Springs Utilities), the incident has caused a power outage affecting nearly 4,000 people.

According to CSFD, crews responded to the scene at North 19th Street and Dale Street, near the Uintah Gardens Shopping Center, where the boom had hit the power pole. Crews safely rescued the boom operator by around 10:30 a.m. and evaluated him for injuries.

Springs Utilities said that a large power outage stretching from Fillmore Street into the Broadmoore area was caused by the incident and that crews are working to untangle the boom from the power line. Once the power line is freed, crews can work on restoring power.

According to Springs Utilities, private construction crews had been working in the area, and the incident was not caused by city workers. Springs Utilities has responded to the scene to oversee power restoration. N. 19th St. is closed while crews are working, and drivers are asked to avoid the area.
