(COLORADO SPRINGS) — As we approach the holiday season, you might be starting to think about gift giving for all your loved ones.
You’ve probably heard the phrase “shop small,” but you might not have heard about “shop creative.” There’s a new guide for the area to help shoppers support both local businesses and local artists at the same time. The guide spans from Victor to Palmer Lake, and includes Colorado Springs.
Election season marks a tough time for local businesses, as the unknown leads to people spending less and saving more. To support your neighbors through the hardship, you can check out the gallery and market guide.
Angela Seals, the Executive Director of the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region said, “It helps you find over 60 galleries. There’s a map, so you can find one close to you or where you’re shopping.”
One of those local galleries is Gallery 113. Located in downtown colorado springs, they have a wide variety of items at a wide variety of prices. 17 different local people create the art within the gallery, all crafted with love and care.
One of the gallery’s founders, who also has art for sale, said they need more people shopping downtown.
“Original art does not have to be tremendously expensive. It can be a real source of joy in your life, in your home,” said Karen Standridge, Gallery 113 President and Artist. “My heart really skips a beat, in knowing that they cared enough about what I made. To talk to me about it, to consider it, to purchase it, and to put it in their home.”
The Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region said when you buy at a local gallery, for every $10 you spend, $7 stays right here in the community.
