Senior cat given second chance at life

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) said a senior cat has recently been given a second chance at life after being found wandering in Colorado Springs.

According to HSPPR, 12-year-old Godrick was found wandering Cheyenne Boulevard and struggling to fend for himself. Godrick was found tired, hungry, and frightened, but HSPPR saw a glimmer of hope in his eye.

During the veterinary team’s examination, they learned Godrick had Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), a virus that weakens the immune system like HIV in humans. There is no cure for FIV and the prognosis can be uncertain, but HSPPR said with regular vet visits and proper care, FIV+ cats can live long, happy lives.

However, according to HSPPR, a senior cat with an autoimmune disease can make it challenging to find a family. For two weeks Godrick waited and watched other cats find their match and new homes with new beginnings. But, HSPPR said Godrick sat there patient, hopeful, and wondering when his turn would come.

On Monday, Nov. 18, Godrick found his family–a family that didn’t shy away from the responsibility that comes with caring for him. HSPPR said the family embraced him, loved him, and gave him a chance at the life he deserves.

“In a world that can sometimes feel harsh and unkind, Godrick’s story is a reminder of the extraordinary compassion and love that exists within our community. It shows us the power of second chances and the kindness and generosity that you, our supporters, give to animals like Godrick. Thank you for being a part of making his dream come true,” writes HSPPR.
