CSPD: Man arrested for attacks, threats at business

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to 911 calls from a business near the corner of North Academy Boulevard and Constitution Avenue on Friday, Nov. 29, reporting that a man had entered a business and began attacking people and threatening their lives.

According to CSPD, the Public Safety Communication Center received calls around 1:30 p.m. on Friday saying that a man had abandoned his car on the curb outside the business near the 1900 block of N. Academy and gone in. At that point, he allegedly started attacking the employees and customers.

The calls reported that the man was threatening to kill people and asking them to shoot him. The employees and customers were able to catch and hold the man until police arrived, said CSPD.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they interacted with the suspect, identified as Travis Hightower, and, according to CSPD, he began to make statements indicating he was trying to initiate suicide by cop. He was taken into custody and arrested for several counts of assault and menacing.
