City Council to vote on Karman Line annexation

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — As the county and Colorado Springs continue to grow, there have been larger areas of annexation throughout the past years; and on Tuesday, Jan. 28, the Colorado Springs City Council will vote on whether to annex approximately 1,900 acres to the city.

The proposed annexation, known as the Karman Line, is located in El Paso County and includes close to 1,783 acres of vacant agricultural land. The property is located on the northwest corner of Bradley Road and Curtis Road, east of Schriever Space Force Base. If approved by the city on Tuesday, developers plan to build 6,500 homes and some mixed-use spaces.

The proposal passed the first set of hurdles on Dec. 10 when the City Council found that the annexation would be in compliance and would consider the annexation of the property.

Community members from both sides of the issue have voiced their opinions for and against, and the vote will head back to City Council for a second vote on Tuesday.
