(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — For the second time in three days, volunteers and employees with the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) were called to rescue cows that had fallen through a frozen pond in eastern Pueblo County.
According to PCSO, deputies responded on Monday, Jan. 27 along with Emergency Management and volunteers with the sheriff’s office dive and fire teams for a rescue of cows that had fallen through a frozen pond. PCSO said three cows were rescued Monday, after a similar incident on the previous Friday.
According to PCSO, on Friday, two cows had ventured onto an icy pond when they encountered thin ice and fell through. The cows then became stuck in the icy water. A passerby saw the cows struggling and called the sheriff’s office, which PCSO said was a wise decision.
In the latest rescue on Monday, PCSO said firefighters were able to break up a huge chunk of ice, allowing two of the cows to walk out with little assistance from the team. A dive team volunteer then went into the water and put a strap around the belly of the last cow to help rescuers pull it to safety.
