CSPD: Old Colorado City deaths being investigated as murder-suicide

(OLD COLORADO CITY, Colo.) — The deaths of two people in Old Colorado City on Sunday, Feb. 2 are being investigated as a murder-suicide, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

Officers originally responded shortly after 11 a.m. on Sunday to the 900 block of North 19th Street, north of Uintah Street, for a welfare check. When they arrived, officers found a man and woman, both dead of at least one gunshot wound.

On Feb. 3, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the two people as 40-year-old Vanessa Whyte and 37-year-old Bryan Severin. While the Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, Whyte’s death is being investigated as a homicide and Severin’s death is being investigated as a suicide.

Whyte’s death marks the seventh homicide in Colorado Springs in 2025. At the same time in 2024, there had been one homicide.
