(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) along with multiple other law enforcement agencies detained five people and arrested an additional two during a search warrant search on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
In Dec. 2024, CSPD Metro Narcotics Unit (MNU) received information about possible drug activity at a residence located in the area of 14000 block of Vessey Circle in unincorporated El Paso County, near Black Forest. Law enforcement identified previously convicted felon Quinten Hickey as the main suspect along with several associates on the property.
A month later, the FBI National Threat Operations Center received information that Hickey was openly carrying an AR15 around the area and was becoming increasingly violent and possibly in possession of explosive devices on his property. The information was forwarded by the FBI to El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
MNU partnered with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), which has local Task Forces officers assigned to it, and completed an investigation. Detectives received enough information to obtain a search warrant on the property and on Feb. 12, the EPSO SWAT Team, with assistance from the Regional Explosives Unit (Bomb Squad), executed the search.
During the search, four men and one woman were detained without incident, one of those men had an unrelated misdemeanor warrant for his arrest and was booked into jail.
Hickey was also arrested on his warrant and turned over to MNU and ATF.
Detectives discovered six firearms — including one illegally modified, a short barrel shotgun, two AR-style rifles, and three pistoles — five of which were stolen. One firearm was also in the process of being modified into a machine gun.
During the search, detectives also found 9.89 grams of fentanyl, 5.98 grams of meth, and $500 in illicit proceeds.
CSPD said the case remains an active investigation involving MNU and ATF.
