(COLORADO) — On Thursday, Feb. 13, Colorado Senator Michael Bennet hosted a press call to address President Donald Trump’s first month in office.
According to Bennet, the purpose of the call was to look at how President Trump’s actions are risking harm to Colorado’s families and economy. In particular, Bennet said Trump’s federal spending freeze, which was supposed to have been rescinded, still hasn’t freed up funds for the state.
The freeze would impact rural hospitals, schools and universities, and national parks. Bennet said these actions bypass Congress and are unconstitutional. Bennet urged that it’s important to hold President Trump accountable.
“These institutions that were designed by our founders are here for a reason, and it’s not for the senators themselves, it’s because the American people are supposed to have a say in these decisions,” said Bennet. “And no president has ever been king in this country going back to the very beginning.”
Bennet reminded his constituents that there are three separate, equal branches of government for a reason and right now, the courts are doing their part to hold the president accountable and the Senate must follow.
