Busy day for flower shops in Colorado Springs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Whether you’re celebrating with a significant other, family, or friends on Valentine’s Day, chances are you had to do a little shopping. People are expected to spend a record $27.5 billion on Valentine’s Day this year.

FOX21’s Erin Bowling took to the flower shops, to see what’s got people opening up their wallets (hint: it starts with “L” and ends with “ove”).

Jasmine Flowers and Gifts says they’ve got a mix of pre-scheduled pick-ups, and last-minute shoppers. Either way, it’s one of their busiest days of the year.

With a nine-month-old baby at home, Tyler Bell and his wife are looking forward to a cozy night in, paired with pizza.

“We’ve been together over seven years now, so, yeah, we’ve been together for a while,” said Bell, “Hopefully she enjoys the flowers, the chocolates, and the teddy bear,” he added, in reference to what he just bought her.

Over at Mama Bears Flowers, Curtis Lovett found a lovely gift for his wife of 47 years.

“She likes the color yellow, she likes yellow roses, and I’ve got a yellow Camaro. So I saw this, (a yellow rose arrangement, inside a yellow retro car-shaped vase) and I thought it’d be appropriate,” said Lovett.

For Jesus Rodriguez, love is definitely in the air… shopping for his wife of five years, and his five kids.

“Just showing love for my kids. Love for my wife. Appreciation,” said Rodriguez, “Toys, Candy, Roses for my wife. Just anything that will look nice.”

In the spirit of the holiday, we asked all the shoppers if they’d like to share a message for their loved ones. You can hear those messages by watching the video above.
