(COLORADO) — The VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System (VA ECHCS) said it is sending letters informing 1,115 veterans that their personal information was inadvertently sent out in an email.
According to the VA’s office, on Jan. 30, 2025, VA ECHCS unintentionally attached a spreadsheet with veterans’ personal information, including their full name, last four digits of their Social Security number, mailing address, email address, and phone number. The spreadsheet was mailed to 75 VA ECHCS veterans after the spreadsheet was attached to an email meant to contain flyers for an upcoming event.
While attempts were made to recall the email, they were unsuccessful, and another email was sent asking the original recipients they delete the previous email containing the spreadsheet.
Impacted veterans have gotten a HIPAA Notification Letter in the mail with details on what information was at risk. Veterans who have questions or concerns about whether their personal information may have been involved can call 1-833-935-6747 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
