DENVER (KDVR) — Denver is getting a new professional sports stadium.
On Tuesday, the Denver National Women’s Soccer League announced its plan for a purpose-built stadium and recreational district for professional women’s soccer.
NWSL said the state-of-the-art stadium will hold 14,500 seats. It will sit in the heart of Denver at Santa Fe Yards, near Broadway and Interstate 25.
“Denver NWSL will transform a site that has for decades sat dormant and undeveloped to create a world-class sports and entertainment district featuring pedestrian and bike connections, in addition to close proximity to public transportation,” said NWSL in a press release.
The league said the redevelopment at Santa Fe Yards will be 14 acres with a three-and-a-half-acre recreational park.
“It’s only fitting that the hottest ticket in town will be making its home on Broadway,” said Denver Mayor Mike Johnston. “This project at Santa Fe Yards will transform an underutilized eyesore into a recreational and economic hub where memories are made, culture is built, and championships are won.”
As the team and popularity behind professional women’s soccer grows, the NWSL said the stadium will be constructed with the ability to expand.
According to the league, the stadium and recreational district will be designed in collaboration with Populous and are expected to open in the spring of 2028.
“This will be the largest overall investment in a women’s professional sports team in history. We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to leverage this massive private investment to revitalize and transform Santa Fe Yards into a new hub of thriving community activity, a place for outdoor recreation, restaurants, retail, and for building connections with our community,” said Denver NWSL controlling owner Rob Cohen.
In January, the NWSL announced its newest team would be calling Denver home. The league is now at 16 clubs across the country.
Denver’s NWSL team is set to play in the 2026 season. Fans who want guaranteed access to season tickets can place a season ticket deposit on the team’s website for $30.30.
