(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Good sleep is important for overall health but it can be hard to achieve for some. Dr. Sherry McAllister, the President of the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress, joined FOX21 Morning News on Thursday, April 17, to talk about how to find better rest.
“It’s not just the quantity, which they recommend is seven to nine hours, but it’s actually the quality of sleep,” said McAllister. She said your “mattress matters,” as does finding the perfect pillow, but another important factor is your sleep posture. “The key to sleep posture is to keep your spine aligned, reduce the tension in your body, and then that can improve your sleep quality,” she said.
McAllister said the best sleep positions are on your back or side. Stomach sleeping is not ideal. “It actually alters those precious natural curves that we all have that actually keep us replenished when we wake up.”
