(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) reported that the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash on Thursday, April 17, was identified by the El Paso County Coroner on Friday, April 18.
The victim was identified as 20-year-old Chelsie Willing.
According to CSPD, officers responded to the crash around 5:20 on April 17 at the intersection of Platte Avenue and North Prospect Street. Investigation showed that a car was driving southbound on Prospect and stopped for the stop sign, then proceeded into the roadway. The motorcycle, traveling westbound, hit the car in the intersection.
When officers arrived, they found the motorcyclist on the road with life-threatening injuries. Despite lifesaving measures by medical first responders, she died of her injuries.
According to CSPD, the original report indicated that it was a possible hit-and-run, but that was not the case. All parties involved remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
CSPD reported that this was the ninth traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year, bringing the total to 42 traffic-related fatalities in the past 365 days. Last year at this time, there were 16 traffic fatalities in the city.
