CSFD: One person found dead in storage unit fire

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) reported one person had been found dead inside a storage unit after a fire had taken place on Sunday, May 18.

On Sunday, at around 8:53 p.m., fire crews responded to a structure fire at 3845 Van Teylingen Drive, a self-storage service facility, off North Academy Boulevard and Austin Bluffs Parkway. Multiple crews responded due to the second-alarm fire, and CSFD told individuals to avoid the area.

At that time, CSFD reported crews were working on multiple storage units on fire.

On Monday, May 19, at around 5:51 a.m., CSFD reported via X (formerly known as Twitter), that firefighters had found one person dead while clearing units in the storage facility.

“Our partners at CSPD were immediately notified and responded to the scene,” CSFD wrote via X. “CSPD has taken over the investigation into the death, CSFD fire investigators will still determine the origin and cause of the fire.”
