(CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo.) — The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) reported the death of a man who fell down a cliff.
On May 27 at around 4 p.m., CCSO deputies responded to the Agnes Vaille Falls trailhead on County Road 162 on reports of hikers who had discovered a dead person face down in the creek bottom near the falls, about a half mile up the trail.
Deputies and detectives with the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office responded and completed an investigation shortly after. They learned that a married couple from Aurora, along with their daughter, had come to the area to hike the trail to the falls. The man, identified as 38-year-old Ronald Eugene Stamm, wanted to continue hiking as his wife and daughter returned to the trailhead.
According to CCSO, based on items of evidence found at the scene, Stamm attempted to climb the cliff face at the falls without equipment, possibly lost his grip, and fell over a hundred feet to the creek bottom.
Stamm did not survive the fall and was declared dead by Chaffee County Coroner Jeff Graff. His body was extricated by Chaffee County Search and Rescue North.
