State Games of America coming to Colorado Springs in 2028

(COLORADO) — Colorado Springs has been announced as the 2028 State Games of America (SGA) host city.

SGA 2028 will bring over 12,500 athletes from across the nation to compete in the multi-sport festival. The event is set to take place from Monday, July 14, through Friday, July 18.

“We are honored to welcome the State Games of America back to Olympic City USA. Colorado Springs has a rich history of hosting this prestigious event, having previously done so in 2005, 2007, and 2009—and we are honored to be selected once again in 2028,” said Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade. “No other city has hosted it more. This return is a testament to our commitment to amateur sports, our world-class venues, and our unrivaled hospitality. We look forward to providing an exceptional experience for athletes, families, and fans from across the nation.”

Athletes will compete in over 35 different sports, including archery, figure skating, pickleball, swimming, and track and field. The event is expected to attract over 18,500 spectators and generate an estimated $8 million economic impact for the Pikes Peak Region.

“The State Games of America is the signature event of the National Congress of State Games, which brings together athletes of all ages and abilities from across the country,” said National Congress of State Games president Kevin Cummings. “2028 will mark the fourth time since its inception in 1999 that Colorado Springs hosted the State Games of America. With its passion for amateur sports, a wealth of quality venues, and outstanding cultural attractions to entertain participants off the field of play, Olympic City USA is well-positioned to host the 2028 State Games of America and provide participants with a quality and memorable experience.”

The U.S. Air Force Academy will also serve as a venue for SGA in 2028.

“We are incredibly excited that the Air Force Academy will serve as a primary competition venue for the 2028 State Games of America. Supporting youth and amateur sports is core to our mission, and hosting a national event of this scale aligns perfectly with our values of leadership, excellence, and community. We look forward to welcoming athletes from across the country to our campus and helping deliver an unforgettable experience.”

More information, such as registration and venue locations, will be announced closer to the event at SportsCorp.org.
