CSU Pueblo bringing back Fourth of July celebration

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — After being on hiatus for almost two decades, Colorado State University Pueblo is bringing back its Fourth of July celebration.

Let Freedom Howl, a free family-friendly event, is back to dazzle Southern Colorado with music and fireworks. The event was launched in the mid-1990s but stopped due to budget constraints in 2009. Now the university is bringing it back thanks to a partnership with the Pueblo Symphony Association and support from local sponsors.

“This is more than just a fireworks show,” said event organizers. “It’s the return of a beloved tradition that created lasting memories for generations of Pueblo families.”

Celebrations kick off at 2 p.m. on the west side of CSU Pueblo and will end with a synchronized fireworks and drone show at 9:15 p.m.

The evening will feature Jim Curry’s Premier John Denver Tribute Show, joined by the Pueblo Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Andrzej Grabiec, which will begin at 7:30 at the Hasan Amphitheatre. Other events throughout the day include:

2 p.m. Live DJ Pnicm and local musician Christian Jaquez.

3-4 p.m. Community after zone

7:30 p.m. Jim Curry’s Premier John Denver Tribute Show

9:15 p.m. Fireworks and drone show finale

Food trucks and local vendors will be on site throughout the evening. There will also be activities such as a bubble tower, inflatables, and yard games.

Admission and parking are both free. Arch’s Peditaxi will offer paid rides from the east campus parking lots, while the west side provides space for blankets, lawn chairs, and patriotic cheer.

The event will take place on Friday, July 4, and celebrations begin at 2 p.m.
