(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Tuesday, June 24, the Colorado Springs City Council approved a rate change with new rates becoming effective on July 1.
According to Colorado Springs Utilities (Springs Utilities), Natural gas prices are expected to increase in the autumn, and as a result City Council approved an increase in natural gas costs adjustment and a decrease to the electric cost adjustment, resulting in a minor change to the overall bill.
Springs Utilities said the average residential customer bill is expected to change by about $0.25, depending on weather, household use, and home efficiency.
The utility said it buys natural gas at lower rates when demand isn’t as high and carries this inventory in storage along with other long-range tools to lock in a portion of the supply at lower rates to protect customers from market changes.
The increase of a typical commercial bill is expected to be around $31.23, and Industrial bills could decrease by $543.68.
