(COLROADO SPRINGS) —The Downtown Colorado Springs Partnership launched a new Clean and Safe Pilot Program.
The new program will add security in the Downtown area as well as ambassadors. Both will be trained in resources to help the unhoused community if they accept it. These resources can be deployed right away to be proactive in the moment.
“As the ambassadors and the security officers or even the police encounter folks downtown that might be in need of services, what we’re hoping to do is have more of an immediate outreach service available so they can call an outreach worker [to] help that person get to a more permanent solution for them,” said Pat Rigdon, the Director of Safety & Public space management for Downtown Colorado Springs.
The ambassadors will also receive training from Visit COS for recommendations for visitors and how to navigate The Olympic City.
Security officers will work longer hours on weekends and events to ensure the city is safe for everyone trying to enjoy all it has to offer.
The downtown partnership hopes to make visitors experience as comfortable and informative as they can. If the program is successful, the city will look at how to fund this project long-term.
The program will last until the end of 2026.
