(FOUNTAIN) —The Fountain Valley Senior Center (FVSC) is launching an emergency campaign called “Help Us Thrive in a Time of Uncertainty” to raise funds to fill the gap they are facing with budget cuts from Federal and State Funding.
Mark Bowers, the Executive Director for Fountain Valley Senior Center, said, “$150,000. That’s what we’re projecting that we’re going to need to keep the doors open.”
Since 1975, FVSC has been the go-to spot for seniors.
They provide more than 43,000 rides and 27,000 meals annually. As well as classes, exercise programs, and a way for seniors to connect and participate.
Bowers commented, “We have a bingo license. We play for a whopping, you know, $10 for bingo. And they’re not going to get rich playing bingo here… it’s more than the bingo…. it’s the camaraderie and the socialization,”
Right now, they are facing transportation rides cut by 20% in 2025 due to funding shortfalls, and Meal programs and wellness services are at risk of scaling back.
60% of FVSC clients live alone or below the federal poverty line, making this facility a key resource.
“We’re not asking for millions.” Bowers said, “But just… a bunch of small amounts coming in, will add up.”
They are accepting donations online or in person.
