(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a disturbance call that led to an officer firing at least one shot.
On Wednesday, July 23, at around 10:35 p.m., officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the 3800 block of Radiant Drive, off Academy Boulevard and Maizeland Drive. Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim and established probable cause for domestic violence-related charges. A description of the suspect and their vehicle was obtained; however, the suspect was no longer on scene.
Detectives were able to locate the vehicle in the area of North Carefree Circle and Academy Boulevard, and officers initiated a search. Officers were able to locate both the suspect and the car. At that point, the man ran away, and the officers lost contact.
Police continued searching and were able to locate the suspect again in the 3400 block of Floris Point, near Van Teylingen Drive. At that time, an officer fired at least one shot.
The suspect was not hit and was taken into custody. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave.
“In accordance with Colorado law, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigative agency for the officer-involved shooting,” CSPD wrote. “All investigative updates on CSPD’s use of force will be provided by their office.”
CSPD will release a significant event briefing video within 21 days.
