Hwy 85 shooting suspect arrested, investigation ongoing

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) has arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that caused damage to a gas station and a victim.

At around 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, deputies responded to a call for service regarding a disturbance and shots fired near 4140 S. Highway 85/87, in unincorporated El Paso County. Upon arrival, deputies discovered multiple shell casings and observed damage to the gas station.

An investigation was initiated, and a victim was located at a nearby business. The victim was not seriously injured during the incident. Witnesses described the suspect, along with possible locations he may have escaped to, but they were unable to confirm the suspect’s name.

Deputies, along with Colorado Springs Police Department officers, could not locate him after an extensive search.

EPSO detectives assumed the investigation and worked to identify the suspect. On Friday, July 25, 23-year-old Miguel Mayo was arrested and charged with menacing and reckless endangerment.

He was booked into the El Paso County Jail and was released after posting $2,000 bond.
