(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is looking for a previously convicted man who was allegedly involved in an attack on ICE officers in Black Forest on Thursday, July 31.
Jose Mendez-Chavez was allegedly in the car that attempted to ram into ICE officers during a targeted enforcement operation on Thursday in El Paso County.
Mendez-Chavez and passenger Francisco Zapata-Pacheco were inside the vehicle when an officer fired three shots into the car in response to the attack. Per ICE, the two suspects escaped and later abandoned the car. No one was injured during the incident. “He knows he’s not supposed to be here, since we’ve removed him six times previously,” ICE wrote.
According to FOX News, Mendez-Chavez was previously convicted in Ohio of domestic violence and was sentenced to 180 days in jail in 2013. Most recently, Mendez-Chavez was arrested for reckless endangerment and child abuse in 2019 in Colorado Springs. According to court papers, he pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment in 2020.
