(COLORADO) — The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) has announced that they are partnering with local law enforcement agencies to crack down on impaired driving. This operation includes holding four sobriety checkpoints on highways throughout the state of Colorado.
The checkpoints begin on Friday, August 15, on Highway 16 in Fountain, and another checkpoint, located at Highway 119 in Gilpin County, will start the same day. The next will be on August 22 on Hwy 550 in Ridgeway. After that, Archuleta County will have its checkpoint running on Saturday, August 23.
“The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests but to promote public safety by
discouraging motorists from driving impaired. Through high-visibility, responsible driving
enforcement events, troopers will also address those who make the poor decision to drive
intoxicated,” said CSP in their announcement for these checkpoints.
CSP would like to remind drivers ahead of these checkpoints that impaired driving includes being under the influence of alcohol, prescription medications, marijuana, or any other substance that could affect driving ability.
If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact the CSP by dialing 277.
