Rounding up rubbish to clean up Colorado Springs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Volunteers from Richard’s Rubbish Roundup gathered at Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs to clean up the area and contribute to a cleaner community.

The group, founded by Richard Skorman, has been organizing regular cleanups around the city for the past two years, growing from just a handful of participants to as many as 30 volunteers on a cleanup day.

“We believe that, you know, Colorado Springs is really a beautiful place to live in,” said Susan Imhoff, a board member for Richard’s Rubbish Roundup.

“I thought this would be a great thing to do to get people organized and see if we can get out here and do it on a regular basis,” Skorman said.

“The camaraderie that we have as a group is pretty strong because we all believe in a beautiful city and we want to create that,” Russel McGuire, a board member, said.

The volunteers, equipped with trash bags and claws, work diligently to pick up litter and beautify the community.

Skorman, who also runs Poor Richard’s Downtown, started the initiative to encourage community involvement in keeping the city clean. The group has expanded its efforts to parks, trails, and other areas around Colorado Springs.

Volunteers like Imhoff and McGuire found the group through online searches for volunteer opportunities and have since become passionate about the cause.

After each cleanup, the volunteers gather at Poor Richard’s Downtown, where Skorman thanks them with beverages and pizza.
