Colorado leaders react to death of Charlie Kirk

(COLORADO) — After the tragic death of Charlie Kirk, leaders across Colorado are voicing their sadness and outrage at the violence that took place in Utah when a gunman shot the conservative influencer on Wednesday, Sept. 10.

Governor Jared Polis stated that political violence is never acceptable and condemned the “brutal and inexcusable attack” on Kirk. He went on to say, “This is a challenging time for so many in our country, but any divisions we face will never be solved by trying to hurt each other. I am sending hope and love to his friends and his family in this dark hour. I encourage everyone to be stronger and disagree better and peacefully.”

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser echoed the sentiment that political violence has no place in the country, saying, “We cannot be a nation where differences are settled with violence. And we must honor free speech, not try to silence it. My thoughts are with Charlie Kirk and his family.”

The Colorado House Republicans (CO House GOP) stated, “We are profoundly saddened and shaken by the tragic death of Charlie Kirk. His life was cut short by an act of violence that should never have happened.”

The CO House GOP had released a previous statement before Kirk’s death had been confirmed, stating, “Regardless of party or ideology, every American has the right to speak freely and participate in public life without fear of violence. Charlie was scheduled to be in Colorado in just two days to meet with legislators at the Truth and Liberty Conference. This senseless act of violence has shaken many of us who were preparing to welcome him to our state.”

Colorado House Minority Leader Rose Pugliese of El Paso County stated, “I am heartbroken over the tragic death of our Conservative friend Charlie Kirk. This senseless act of violence is devastating, and I am grieving deeply alongside his family and all who loved him. He was supposed to be here in Colorado this week, and instead, we mourn his loss. My prayers are with his loved ones in this unimaginable time.”

Focus on the Family’s social media posted an announcement of Kirk’s death, saying, “Lord have mercy on the Kirk family and our nation… Please keep his wife and children in your prayers.”

Congressman Jeff Crank stated that he “had the honor” of serving on the Air Force Board of Visitors with Kirk, saying, “He was [a] compassionate warrior for the conservative movement. He will be missed. Lifting up prayers to his family and friends.”

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert released a statement saying, “Charlie, we love you. We love your family. We love your dedicated team. We are eternally grateful for everything you have done to revive our country’s youth. America looks different because of the vision you pioneered. You are my friend, and I will honor your work. I will honor your precious family. Myself and others will not be silenced, nor back down. We will boldly march forward into the victory that belongs to us. What Satan meant for evil, God WILL use for work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. May the fierce, faith-filled spirit of Charlie Kirk live on. JESUS IS LORD!”

The Colorado House Democrats stated, “We are appalled and sickened by the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk. No matter how much we disagree, political violence is never the answer. The rise of political violence is unacceptable, and there is no place for it in our society. This cannot become our new normal in the US.”
