Volunteers place flags honoring veterans downtown

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Volunteer Guardians from Peterson Space Force Base joined the staff of O’Donnell & O’Donnell to place more than 1,000 American flags in the medians of downtown Colorado Springs.

The flags are part of a temporary art installation called “The Salute from the Springs,” celebrating military service in the community. The display honors the service and sacrifice of the roughly 95,000 men and women of the Pikes Peak Region who have served or are currently serving in our armed forces.

The flags are placed near Palmer High School, the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum, and the Pikes Peak Center. Flags will remain in place until Veterans Day on Nov. 11.

“My dad was in the Army for 23 years, really means a lot to be able to come back out here and honor all of the sacrifices he made to give me the upbringing that he wanted,” said Dominic Rodriguez, Event Coordinator.
