(CUSTER COUNTY, Colo.) — The Custer County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said two drivers had their licenses suspended after they were ticketed for excessive speeds in late October.
According to CCSO, on Oct. 22, a 71-year-old woman from Colorado Springs was ticketed for allegedly driving her Porsche at 96 mph in a 55 mph zone near Wetmore.
On Oct. 24, an 18-year-old man from Fountain was ticketed for allegedly driving his Honda at 92mph in a 50 mph zone near Silver Cliff. CCSO noted the ticket was issued around 6:30 a.m., a time when the risk of wildlife crossing is high and visibility is low.
CCSO said in Colorado, accumulating 12 or more license points within a 12-month period results in a mandatory driver’s license suspension of at least three months. Speeding by 40 mph or more over the posted limit carries a minimum fine of $300 to a maximum of $1,000 and can result in up to 10 days in county jail.
“The Custer County Sheriff’s Office continues to urge all motorists to observe posted speed limits and drive safely, particularly in rural mountain areas prone to wildlife crossings and low-light conditions. These measures help protect drivers and others sharing the road,” said CCSO.
