(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Veterans Day events are set to take place across Southern Colorado tomorrow, offering numerous opportunities for communities to honor and thank veterans and active military personnel for their service.
In Pueblo, a Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the Pueblo River Walk, followed by a Purple Heart recognition ceremony at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
Teller County is hosting a free dinner for veterans and their families from 4 to 7 p.m., with a ceremony at 5 p.m. at the Ute Pass Cultural Center.
Palmer Lake will feature a flag-raising ceremony at Crawford Memorial Park at 10 a.m. and a Bright Star Light event at sundown.
Colorado Springs will host a Veterans Day ceremony at Memorial Park beginning at 10:30 a.m., where volunteers will lay wreaths.
The Pikes Peak State College Rampart Range Campus will feature veteran speakers from 1 to 3 p.m.
Additionally, the ANA Money Museum will offer a Purple Heart exhibit free to veterans with a valid ID. They will be allowed one guest, and any non-military personnel can see the exhibit for $8; it is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Many restaurants in the area are offering free meals to veterans.
Breakfast options include Village Inn, IHOP, Denny’s, and Cracker Barrel, all providing free breakfast items.
For lunch, Famous Dave’s BBQ and Brass Tap are offering free meals.
Establishments offering dinner options include Bubba’s 33, Lazy Dog, and Outback Steakhouse, among others. Bubba’s 33 and Texas Roadhouse will also be giving out a free meal voucher that military members can use at a later date if they are full from the day’s festivities.
The city of Colorado Springs and El Paso County offices will be closed on Tuesday, but the community is encouraged to participate in the various events and take advantage of the offers available to veterans.
