(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The Cañon City Police Department (CCPD) said after a nearly one-year investigation, police searched a business on the grounds of alleged illegal gambling.
According to CCPD, for the last 11 months, CCPD’s Investigations Unit has been conducting an investigation into allegations of illegal gambling at a local business, Mad Skillz Gaming.
CCPD said on Wednesday, Nov. 5, investigators executed a search warrant at 609 Royal Gorge Boulevard and multiple gabling devices and related evidence were seized. The operation was conducted in cooperation with the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Division of Gaming.
CCPD wants to remind the public that businesses advertising “fish games” or other “skill-based” games often utilize devices that are legally classified as gambling machines under Colorado law.
CCPD said under Colorado statutes:
Possession of a gambling device is a Class 2 misdemeanor
Possessing or operating an unregistered gambling device is a Class 5 felony
Employees and patrons involved in gambling activities may also face Class 2 misdemeanor charges
According to CCPD, at the current moment, charges are not being pursued against patrons of Mad Skillz Gaming. Anyone with information about the establishment is encouraged to contact Detective Morgan Roquemore. Call (719) 276-5600 to reach the department.
