10-year-old honored for helping grandfather after fall

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — A 10-year-old boy was honored by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) on Friday, Jan. 24 for remaining calm and knowing what to do when he called 911 for his grandfather who had fallen.

On June 26, 10-year-old Josian Davis called 911 after his grandfather fell and was slipping in and out of consciousness. Even in the face of such a scary situation at his young age, EPSO said Josian was calm and followed every instruction from the 911 dispatcher.

As Stratmoor Hills Fire Department and Security Fire rushed to the scene, EPSO said Dispatcher Weldon guided Josian in assessing his grandfather’s condition.

“Their collective efforts stabilized the situation until medical professionals arrived,” EPSO said. “First responders ensured Josian’s grandfather received immediate care. This incident underscores Josian’s remarkable bravery and the vital support provided by Dispatcher Weldon.”

On Friday, a day after Josian’s birthday, he was surprised with a 911 Hero Award for his bravery and compassion during such a frightening incident.

“He was in really bad condition,” Josian said of his grandfather. “I was still shaky, scared… it was just really hard.”

During the celebration of his award, Josian even got to go for a ride in a fire truck!
