DENVER (KDVR) — Two people were killed and one person was rescued after a crash that resulted in a car rolling more than 300 feet down a mountain, according to a press release from the Colorado State Patrol.
On Tuesday morning, around 8:06 a.m., troopers responded to a deadly crash that occurred on Highway 550 near Mile Post 88 outside of Ouray on Red Mountain Pass.
The crash involved a single vehicle, a silver Honda Civic, that traveled off the shoulder of the road before rolling an approximate 320 feet down the side of a mountain and crashing upside down in a river.
Emergency responders confirmed two adults were pronounced dead at the scene.
A juvenile girl was trapped inside the vehicle, but emergency responders were able to rescue her from the car at 11:27 a.m., and she was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries, CSP reported.
The southbound lane of Highway 550 is closed, and two-way traffic will take turns driving through the northbound lane while investigators remain at the scene of the crash. CSP said that there is no timeline for the road to reopen.
